I guess this
class would be listed as the most recognized of all the professional
drag racing classes. Speeds over 300 mph and the qtr. mile covered in
less than 5 second will get your blood pumping like nothing else. An
adrenaline rush everytime that an engine is fired, be it on the
starting line or in the pits. These cars are consider dragsters and
usually have a wheel base of 300". I have heard extimated
horsepower ratings of near 6500 to 7000 for a competitive car. When
the light turns green and the brake is released the driver is pushed
back in the seat by "G" forces a fighter pilot would see. I
would suggest that you don't blink as it will only take 4.6 seconds
to go from a starting line to the finish line 1320 feet away.
In the early days "match racing"
was the way that most made their money at this. Now you do not see as
much match racing although it is still done. To see these cars race
your best chance is a national event NHRA
and IHRA have
classes at this level.
